2021 Republican Party of Virginia state convention

We are sorry that the deadline to become a new convention delegate is now passed.

For those who have already signed up, the 2021 RPV State Convention will select the Republican nominees for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General. For Lynchburg residents, the Convention will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. As long as you are in line to vote at 4:00 PM, your vote will be accepted.

Lynchburg Delegates will vote at the Tree of Life Ministries, 2812 Greenview Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502. We will be joined by delegates from Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Danville City, Franklin, Nelson, and Pittsylvania. The event is set up to allow for people to park and walk inside; curbside voting will be available for those who need it for health reasons.

As a delegate, you will cast your ballot by Ranked Choice Voting. This means that if you want your vote to count in every round of voting, you should list your candidates in order of your favorite at the top to least favorite at the bottom of your ballot. After each round of voting, the candidate who receives the fewest votes is eliminated and everyone who voted for them is pushed to their second-favorite candidate and voting happens again until one candidate receives more than 50 percent. As long as your favorite candidate is still in the race, who you rank below that person is irrelevant. Your second choice is only activated if your first choice candidate is eliminated for having the fewest votes in the previous round. For more details on how Ranked Choice Voting works, Click Here. This method saves you hours of time so that on Saturday, you can verify your identity, fill out your ballot and submit it, and go on your way! We have opened up this procedure to poll watchers from each of the candidates' teams to make sure that this is an honest process that is fair to all candidates.

Each Convention candidate will have the opportunity to provide RPV a campaign video which will be posted on the Convention website on Saturday, May 1 by approximately 7:30 pm.

A new rule was passed that allows those with a religious exemption (ie. Orthodox Jews/7th Day Adventists/Muslims) to vote on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 3 to 6 PM. If someone wants to use this religious exemption they MUST contact John Massoud at 6thDistrictChair@gmail.com. To vote early there will be a form that needs to be filled out and sent back to him no later than May 4, 2021, at 5 PM. The location for early voting is still being determined.

Here is an 8-minute video explaining the Convention process:
